THE GREEN JUNIPER TREE

In the soft freshness of the morning

When the dew bathes the ground
Kissed with new born sun rays
Where the dawn gives of her sound

From the bird and the humming bee

So eager for their busy day
The lilt of their sweet music
Like an orchester in harmony play

The voice of a grazing cow

Called plaintive soft and low
Her gentle sad brown eyes
Watched the way the man did go

There grew the green juniper tree

Beside the wandering of a stream
He sat underneath its boughs
Where sleep took him to dream

He dreamt once again he was young

A gentle kind boy once more
But his heart ached within him
His body bruised and sore

The boy had set up in innocence

A pillar of granite stone
Where he prayed in earnest to God
In a quiet meadow all alone

Jesus dear Jesus I need you

You are my only friend
Take away my heartache and teardrops
I want them all to end

He knew in his heart Jesus answered

Of that he was very sure
God helped him to live a good life
And his soul He kept clean and pure

The dream led him strangely on

A life course it did run
It brought him to end times
And the setting of the evening sun

He saw them lay him down

Some wept so bitter and free
As they stood around his grave
Beneath an old gnarled juniper tree

He then saw streets of gold

His mansion and a crystal sea
In the beautiful land of heaven
Grew life's eternal tree

He awoke from his fitful sleep

Remembering all he had seen
Then wandered lazily away
From the juniper tree growing green
