Just three words said it all
From the cross came the call
Just before He bowed His head
These are the words my Saviour said
Chorus
It is finished, yes it’s finished
There was nothing more my Saviour could do
It is finished, yes it’s finished
As Jesus died on a cross for me and you
All the work now was done
Finished there by the Son
He fulfilled His Father’s will
As He died for all on that hill
Chorus
It is finished, yes it’s finished
There was nothing more my Saviour could do
It is finished, yes it’s finished
As Jesus died on a cross for me and you
All debt for sin was paid
All guilt on Him was laid
For redemption He gave all
As from dying lips came that call
Chorus
It is finished, yes it’s finished
There was nothing more my Saviour could do
It is finished, yes it’s finished
As Jesus died on a cross for me and you
Just trust in Him alone
Works of yours can’t atone
For sins that destroy your soul
Only Jesus can make you whole
Chorus
It is finished, yes it’s finished
There was nothing more my Saviour could do
It is finished, yes it’s finished
As Jesus died on a cross for me and you
Just those words from that tree
Finished work in those three
Atonement now, full complete
Hear again His loud voice repeat
Chorus
It is finished, yes it’s finished
There was nothing more my Saviour could do
It is finished, yes it’s finished
As Jesus died on a cross for me and you

ANOTHER GOSPEL
The tired old preacher stood in his pulpit
Bent and grey haired with age
He slowly opened his battered Bible
Leafing over it page by page
Then he looked over his congregation
Waiting to hear what he would say
As he closed his Bible shut
He said, my sermon will be different today
I have preached here fifty years or more
The gospel that I thought I knew
But now I don’t really know
If I have been preaching the truth to you
I have told you the Bible is trustworthy
I have told you to believe in its word
For this book was inspired by God
Almighty, sovereign and Lord
Now to my shame I must say it
I have been on the internet
Reading the opinions of men
Something I am beginning to regret
So I am trying to bring you this sermon
Although it’s even confusing to me
But learned men who profess to be Christian
Say this is the way it should be
Now excuse me if I stumble
And lose my way here and there
For they have so many theories
Added to so often I am aware
The old preacher raised his voice
Though feeble his words rang clear
Listen to me my dear flock
And the Gospel of men you will hear
In the beginning God created
Then maybe again He did not
Perhaps He allowed some evolution
To help make us this human lot
We must not believe the entire Bible
Pick and choose what you like best
For scientist have proved so much
That this Book does not stand the test
I have read that God was confused
And maybe did not know how to count
When He said six days of creation
How could He do it in that amount?
Now these are the words of those
Who say they believe in His name
But of course they know much more
Than God himself to His shame!
I used to know the Gospel so well
Sure I learned it at my Mother’s knee
But since I went and read some debates
I wonder just what she was teaching me!
She told me God loved all the world
Now it seems He loves just a few
And even the one’s He has chosen
Can lose their salvation its true
I preached to you from the Bible
That was given to me by my Mother
I believed in her Saviour too
But now they tell me I should not bother
For how can you believe His word
His sayings are so way out
They have so messed with my mind
That they have made this old preacher doubt
Then the preacher raised his voice again
Listen my friends unto me
If we had not God’s Holy Word
Then this is how all my sermons would be!
But I have in my hand this wondrous book
I have read its every page
I believe it is God’s will revealed
To debate with Him I won’t engage!
I will preach its glorious truths
This old time Gospel pure and true
And rest assured my little flock
I will never preach another Gospel to you!

SWEET WILDFLOWER
I climbed the mountainside
Clambered over rock and stone
Felt the peace of solitude
On its peak silently alone
Then I saw it blooming there
Though its leaves were torn, tattered
The wildflower of the mountain
With strong winds cruelly battered
I could see it struggled hard to live
Of its plight I took some pity
Mountain wildflower why bloom here
Come to my garden in the city
There you will live in calmer clime
Your life will be more at ease
No strong wind will harm your there
Your face kissed then by gentle breeze
I seemed to hear its voice reply
On its face a raindrop tear
I cannot go to a city garden
For my home is on the mountain here
God has planted me where He would
Here my abode the mountain high
If you took me from its slopes
Then alas my heart would die
Here I am nearer Heaven’s sky
He has blessed with such a view to see
Of all the places I could have been
This was the home He had for me
Battered yes and bruised my leaves
Yet the sun shines on my face
Remove me not for not His will
That I should ever leave this place
I descended from the mountainside
Over me again its peak did tower
Pondering over the lesson I had learned
Taught to me by the sweet wildflower

A NARROW MINDED CHRISTIAN
I’m a narrowed minded Christian
Because I walk a narrow way
Jesus told me to walk in it
And never from it to stray
Some call at me to chide
We are Christians too they claim
But we can walk a broader road
Yet serve God still the same
We can be of this world
Just a little bit you know
Come leave that narrow way
It’s all right for you to go
Don’t be so narrow minded
You can worship as you please
Forget about truth and spirit
When you pray upon your knees
But God knows my very thoughts
He looks within my heart
I think it’s really best for me
Not this narrow way to part
For some they said who did His work
I read on Judgement day
The Lord replies, I never knew you
And sends them on their way
So you may call me narrow minded
But I’ll stick to His word
I will never have an open mind
To anything that betrays my Lord
I’m a narrow minded Christian
And that’s the way I’ll stay
For He told me strait is the road
And to walk the narrow way!

VALENTINE
MY VALENTINE LOVE

They held each others weathered hands
On their fingers faded golden bands
Time had marched on, now late in life
Sixty years had passed as man and wife
A long time from when they did say
We’ll take each other, that Valentine’s Day
Tears ran down the old man’s cheek
With trembling voice he began to speak
Rose I have loved you all these years
Through ups and downs, joys and tears
His voice it trembled, to speak was hard
Remember Rose that Valentine’s card
You sent the year before we wed
Revealing your heart in all it said
One year later you became my wife
Sixty years together, sharing life
My Rose, my Rose we have walked the way
Along life’s journey with God each day
The day we wed, we asked the Lord
To be with us and He kept His word
Such love, such peace, it was the first time
We knew so much joy on any Valentine
Now you are going to that golden shore
I love you Rose but God loves you more
I know my Rose you are going away
Leaving me darling this Valentine’s Day
He squeezed her hand, more tears were shed
Her life ebbing away in that hospital bed
The Lord gives and the Lord He will take
In letting you go my heart it will break
Then he realised she was gathered to the fold
Her hand in his was now stony cold
The old man sighed and kissed her head
Then in sad farewell he quietly said
God has taken you to heaven above
Goodbye darling Rose, my Valentine love

A NEW YEAR

It seems only fleeting hours have gone
Since this New Year first saw its dawn
When an old one was quietly laid to rest
And hope for renewal stirred in our breast
Yet already sorrow known and floods of tears
Like many before down through the years
Some dared to hope but knew in heart
Nothing would change at this year’s start
Each day turning like a book leaf
Unfolding another page of pain and grief
Sickness still goes on, death comes too
The march of time brings nothing new
That was never known in years before
As the shutting of an old opens a New Years door
But we are His and in the palm of His hand
Our Lord and Saviour who has everything planned
Not by sight do we walk in days that are ahead
But by faith alone knowing we will be led
Whether rocky mountain path or in forest glade
He will guide us along our help and our aid
Broken resolutions no good, surrender to Him
The plans of our life are not left to our whim
Our comings and goings from beginning to end
Are His alone to know in whatever days He will send
Whether sorrow or joy, laughter or spilt tear
Know He will be with you each day of this year
How many He allows none of us will know
But He will lead us all on this journey we go
Colin
I HAVE WATCHED YOU LORD
I have watched you at dawn
Spread dewdrops on the grass
Watched you raise the sun
Bid the dark of night to pass
I have watched you roll the mist
Wiped its tears from the air
Watched your artist hand
Painting colours everywhere
On the autumn leaves of trees
The rainbow in the sky
Or the delicate fluttering wings
Of a beautiful butterfly
I have watched you bring snow
Spread its cloak around
Over the mountain top
And on the frosted ground
I have watched you hang stars
Give the moon her light
As she rides the sky
All through the silent night
You move the clouds along
Stir the waves of the sea
Spread flowers around
Give fruit to the orchard tree
I have watched you work
In every kind of way
Your handiwork I see
Every single day
I know you are there Lord
That you exist is true
Nature tells me everyday
That I am watching you

WINTER STORM
The winter storm rages around
Drifting snow covers ground
Frozen lakes, chilling frost
The land in white now is lost
Children playing in the snow
Sliding, sleighing, faces aglow
Cheeks as red as summer roses
Building snowmen with carrot noses
Such fun to have in a world of white
But to others it brings no delight
Treachery lurks below snowy veil
An icy patch will up heel
One false move and down you go
Along your length in the winter’s snow
To drive a car a real nightmare
Spinning, skidding and getting nowhere
Beauty no doubt in winter scene
When snow covers the fields of green
After nature herself has cast
Her snowflakes around in icy blast
Yet there is danger in her chill
As she snow caps the distant hill
For too long in her cold breath
Will extinguish life and bring forth death
Sin like snow casts itself around
Pleasure in its cloak can be found
Many play in it, enjoy the fun
Not seeing dangers that they should shun
For sin hides her slippery way
Like fallen snow lying in the way
Feet sliding, souls insecure
Heading for destruction that’s for sure
Spend too long in sins cold grasp
Death will come in but a gasp
But it’s everlasting, eternal night
For a soul was never washed snow white
Like a winters storm sin is raging
To dam poor souls its voice is paging
Snow will melt; life will be done
Then how will it be when you meet God’s Son?

KISSED BY THE BREATH OF GOD

Cooling breath of a whispered wind
That kisses the beaded brow
Of sweated effort in strenuous task
That a man who labours now
Knows its cooling and is so glad
To have it touch his face
A reprieve from the heat that stifles him
And surrounds him in his place
Of solemn toil and honest work
That causes him to perspire
To lift again his spirits high
When his body would begin to tire
How then of saints who work and toil
To sow and reap the sin field sod
Who are refreshed to labour on
When kissed by the breath of God
Weary ones who work so hard
Who tire in the labour field
Know that refreshing whispered wind
When wearied bodies would yield
Then labour on in what you do
Sow or reap when wheat heads nod
Faint not for you will be refreshed
When kissed by the breath of God
